Cogent Communications Data Centers
Testimonial:
“Energy Efficient Technologies deployed CryoGenX4 in five Cogent Data Centers. There was no downtime required in our critical cooling systems, we saw the savings in the electric bills and did not require any additional maintenance afterwards. I highly recommend CryoGenX4!”

On 29 Mar 2022, Energy Efficient Technologies
began an HVAC performance improvement
demonstration at the Cogent Communications
data center location on 6th Street in Los Angeles,
CA. Detailed baseline and post measurements
were taken at this location. The
primary purpose of this exercise was to
demonstrate the financial savings, increased
efficiency, and carbon footprint reductions
achieved by implementing the energy control
measure (ECM) CryoGenX4.
Overview of Other Key Improvements
• kW/Ton per unit dropped from 1.74 to 1.31 equating to a 24.5% improvement.
• Capacity of demo unit increased from 8.79-tons to 10.97-tons, a 24.8% increase.
• Dry bulb delta-T expanded by 2.2°F or 22.2% increase.
• COP of unit increased from 2.02 to 2.68 equating to a 32.7% improvement.
• kWh usage dropped from 85,400 to 72,050, an 18.5% reduction
In the energy use chart below, the blue highlighted area represents the Baseline and the yellow
areas the post periods where outside temps ranged from 66 - 69°F for five or more hours. The green
arrows show how the primary compressor is shutting off for significant periods of time following
CryoGenX4 introduction when the building and exterior loads are similar. This is due to the restored
capacity of the CRAC demo unit which allows it to reach set points faster and cycle off. The average
18.5% reduction in Amp draw in the post periods data serves to corroborate the IPMVP results on
the same unit. A larger image of the chart can be found in Appendix B.
