Summary Results
The demonstration was a success as the units now provide colder supply air with greater efficiency due to the restoration of the heat transfer ability of the evaporator and condenser coils, both of which have a direct correlation to an increase in the number of tons the machines are now capable of producing. This means the systems reach set point faster and shut off sooner thereby saving energy.
Total system efficiency across the two units improved by an average of 14.3%, while the EER across the units rose by 15.4%. There was an overall increase in coil capacity of 13,140 Btu’s, equating to the restoration of 1.1-tons of capacity or 12.6%. There is also a reduction of 13.3% in kW/ton, which is another measurable way to view the thermodynamic enhancement brought about by the ECM.
