Working on Reefers

Universal Validated Refrigerated Logistics was interested in evaluating CryoGenX4 as a possible solution to reduce carbon footprint and fuel usage in their refrigerated trailers (reefers).

The testing took place over two months in an effort to show existing conditions of the trailer equipment and performance after CryoGenX4 was deployed. Both trailers tested had been in operation since 2010 and had over 30,000 runtime hours.

Cooling It Down- 20% faster on average

Full baseline tests were completed to identify performance upon arrival in two trailers.

GryoGenX4 was circulated through the reefers’ compressor and coils for less than one hour. Due to the older age and high use of this equipment, oil fouling was substantial and CryoGenX4 did its job of cleaning out the coils.  This resulted in a partially clogged filter dryer, something that happens in small equipment less than 2% of the time,   and was replaced by a qualified technician in 30 minutes.

Once this maintenance was completed, the CryoGenX4 was able to do its job and yielded the following results in Trailer #1:

  • Achieved the 0° set point (down from 39°) inside the trailer 13.8% faster in the initial post test and 17.3% faster in the second post testing period.
  • Increased the Delta-T 62% – at set point from 6.15° in the baseline to as high as 10° in the second post-test period, an improvement of 3.85° ( 62%).
  • Achieved 3.5° colder supply air in the second post test period at the moment 0° set point was achieved versus the initial baseline test period.
  • Achieved the 0° set point (down from 20°) inside the trailer 16.8% faster in the initial post-test and 18.4% faster in the second post testing period.

Results for the work on Trailer #2 were also impressive.

  • Restored much of the lost capacity of the reefer system after CryoGenX4 circulating through the compressor and coils for less than an hour
  • Achieved the -10° set point (down from 39°) inside the trailer 22.9% faster in the initial post testing period
  • Increased the Delta-T at set point from 7.42° in the baseline to 8.33° in the post- testing period, an improvement of nearly a full degree
  • Achieved nearly a full degree° colder supply air in the post-testing period at moment the -10° set point achieved versus the baseline test period
  • Achieved the -10° set point (down from 20°) inside the trailer 26.5% faster in the post-test period.
